When Google announced that Motorola Mobility is going to be offloaded to Lenovo, we think that Motorola is unlikely to unveil new device until the deal with Lenovo completed. Earlier today, Motorola announced its first smartwatch, the Moto 360 that’s powered by the Android Wear operating system.
Google also announced the developer Preview of the Android Wear SDK as well as a number of companies that would be releasing smartwatch devices that based on the Android Wear OS. Other than Motorola, HTC, Asus and LG are the companies that ready to dive into the smartwatch market. Google is expected to introduce its own Nexus Smartwatch but the identity of the partner remains a secret.
At this stage, Motorola did not mention whether the design of Moto 360 has been finalized. From the images above, the Motorola Moto 360 has a metal band and traditional round design like those classic timepiece. However, the features of Motorola Moto 360 are more than the normal watches.
Sony is among the first few companies that introduced the first batch of smartphone. Sony Smartwatch and Sony Smartwatch 2 had been launched into the market. Recently, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Gear 2 in order to compete with Sony Smartwatch 2 in the smartwatch market. From those smartwatches, it is understandable that the features inside are more important that the watch feature itself. Hopefully the Motorola Moto 360 is going to change the consumers’ mentality on a smartwatch.
