When asking about the biggest regret of Steve Ballmer during his time with Microsoft, he said that it is the Windows Vista. Surprisingly, it isn’t the Zune, Surface RT, Windows RT or even the Windows 8.
The Windows Vista missed expectation because the Redmond based company lost focus midway through development, as revealed by Ballmer himself. He said that Microsoft Vista is a too huge project where the company wound up losing thousands of man hours of innovation. At the end, the company being forced to drop a number of big features from the operating system.
The announcement of the retirement of Steve Ballmer was rather surprised. He will step down within the coming 12 months after Microsoft found his successor. He will continue other roles within the company in order to help the company restructuring plans.
Perhaps, it is just in time for Microsoft. Windows 8 and Windows RT are not performing according to expectations while the Windows Phone is lack of new innovation. A new CEO will face an uphill task to bring success to the these three mainstream operating systems of the company.
